DESTINATION GUIDE

HAWAIIAN ISLANDS

volcanic coastline, constant trade winds, and turquoise blue water

THE REGION

OCEAN HOLES. LAVA FIELDS. YEAR-ROUND PLAY.

Golf in Hawaii is played on volcanic ground with the Pacific on one shoulder and the trade winds on the other. Four islands carry the weight: the Big Island's Kohala Coast, where Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani sit on black lava a few minutes apart; Maui's Kapalua and Wailea; O'ahu's Turtle Bay and Ko Olina; and Kauai's oceanfront runs at Makai and Poipu Bay. Conditions hold twelve months a year. There is no off-season. What changes is not the golf, but what it costs.
